An ex Midland Railway design continued in mass production by the LMS for twenty years.
The 4F 0-6-0’s hauled all but the heaviest freight trains either solo or double headed.
They also were regular workers on excursion passenger trains at weekends.
Even in the 1920’s their design was dated but nonetheless they lasted well into the final
years of steam outlasting many more modern designs.
